If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I love suspense and thriller ANYTHING. Whether it’s a movie, show, podcast, or novel I am always ready to dive in and get wrapped up in a spine-chilling story. I’ve put together a shortlist of eerie psychological thriller books you need to check out. If you’re aware of these titles, they might already be on your list. If not, you’ll have a few sinister reads getting prepared for October. In no particular order, here are some suggestions that you’re bound to enjoy!
The Bone Keeper – Luca Vest
The Bone Keeper by Luca Veste: As my most recent read, this book surrounds an urban legend known as the Bone Keeper who slices off human flesh and keeps their bones as souvenirs. Yikes! Detectives believe it’s just a myth until finding a woman, Caroline Rickards, escaping from the woods with sliced skin. D.C. Louise Henderson finds this myth to hit close to home as memories from her past begin to arise. Heads up, I especially couldn’t put this one down towards the end!
The Perfect Girlfriend – Karen Hamilton
The Perfect Girlfriend by Karen Hamilton: This one reminds me of the Netflix show You but flipped. Picture a girl who is overly obsessed with guy and makes you ask, what would you do for love? In this case, Juliette loves Nate and despite breaking up 6 months ago, she is determined to win him back by getting closer to him, even if that means becoming a flight attendant for his airline.
Lie To Me – J.T. Ellison
Lie to Me by J.T Ellison: This book immediately starts off disturbing as we hear from an unidentified character, “You won’t like me very much”. With this in mind, the story follows a seemingly perfect couple with an underlying core of betrayals and hatred. When Sutton, the wife of Ethan Montclair, goes missing after leaving a suspicious note not to look for her, Ethan is pinned to be the target of the case. The story goes through several twists and turns and really had me on the edge of my seat towards the end!
The Couple Next Door – Shari Lapena
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena: This is another story about a “perfect couple”, but this one surrounds something every parent fears, the abduction of your baby. Even though the couple was right next door at a neighbors birthday party, the suspicion immediately goes towards the parents. The story grows ever more complicated as there is so much more truth to discover.
Sharp Objects – Gillian Flynn
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn: This book has been out for a while but I just got around to reading it last summer. I recently watched the HBO miniseries based on the novel and really enjoyed it so I had to include this book in the post! The story revolves around Camile Preaker, a journalist sent on an assignment to her home town in Wind Gap, Missouri in order to cover the murders of two girls. What I love most about this book is there are two stories going on. One of Camile’s internal struggle for self-love, and the other dealing with the death and mystery of the two girls in this small town. Slowly, Camile reveals the truth about the murders that she identifies very closely with.
Thats a wrap! What have you been reading lately? Let me know in the comments!
