Looking for a new morning pick me up? As one of my latest obsessions, it’s only appropriate that I share this delicious matcha latte recipe you can make right at home. It’ll taste just as good as your local cafe and not to mention, save you from spending $5 on that latte addiction you have.
As soon as the quarantine began, I started to crave this sweet drink but sadly couldn’t pick it up from my favorite local coffee shop, Collectivo. So, like everyone on the planet right now, I started to take matters into my own hands and start a little coffee shop in the comfort of my own home. Read on and learn how to make this perfect at home matcha treat!
Benefits of Matcha
At first, I was weirded out by this creamy green drink, but now I prefer it over coffee any day! There are so many amazing benefits from matcha such as it’s ability to keep you calm yet alert, boost energy and immunity, and aid in fat burning and weight loss. One of my favorite things about it is its ability to give me a steady focus throughout the day as opposed to coffee which makes me feel super jittery.
Ingredients & Recipe
To start, you’ll want to pick up the following ingredients: Milk, Matcha Powder, Honey, and Cinnamon. I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk but you can use any milk. Add honey and cinnamon to taste (if you’d like) or any other sweetener substitute. As far as the matcha powder, you can easily find it in any grocery store or on Amazon. I’m currently using this Tiesta Tea brand mix but once you shop around you’ll be able to settle on a mix you like. Now for the big moment, let’s make this super easy recipe!
- Start boiling the water and prepare to heat up a 1/2 cup of milk in the microwave for 1 minute.
- Add 1 tbsp of matcha mix and a 1/2 cup of boiled water into a blender or mug. Whisk or blend until there’s no clumps.
- Once its well mixed, add the 1/2 cup of warmed milk and sweetener of choice (in my case 2 tsp of honey). Continue blending until it starts to take on that nice foamy consistency.
- Once reached, pour the contents back into your mug, top with a dash of cinnamon and enjoy!
One thing I was missing to create this frothy goodness is a milk frother. It’s something that’d be neat to have but isn’t entirely necessary! You just have to get creative with what you have and whip it up with a fork or regular kitchen whisk.
There you have it, an easy at-home matcha latte recipe. Now you can look forward to making something new in the morning. You can download/print the recipe for both a hot and iced version by clicking on them below.
